was a summer enrichment program run by the
Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science
from 1991 through 2017. All local area high school students (and occasional middle school students) were
encouraged to apply by taking the Interesting Test.

We regret to inform you that the Leap@CMU program is being cancelled, and there will not be a Leap program in the summer of 2018. Outreach programs like Leap are constantly under review, and the School of Computer Science has chosen to pursue new programming opportunities.

We are able to suggest some alternative summer programs options offered by Carnegie Mellon University, including:

Summer Academy for Math and Science (SAMS) provides high school seniors with a strong interest in computer science, engineering and/or the natural sciences, with the opportunity to achieve essential skills necessary to pursue and complete majors in STEM fields. The Summer Academy curriculum includes seminars and highly collaborative hands-on projects, designed and taught by Carnegie Mellon faculty, outstanding teachers and graduate students, carefully chosen due to their commitment to teaching. Upperclassmen college students also serve as classroom assistants, tutors and mentors. SAMS is a six-week residential program, from June 30-August 11, 2018.

Pre-College Artificial Intelligence program provides high school juniors and seniors with a strong interest in computer science with the opportunity to utilize AI to address problems of probabilistic and numeric nature. Students will have the opportunity to work with Carnegie Mellon faculty, staff and researchers who have been leaders in Artificial Intelligence since the field was invented at Carnegie Mellon in the 1950s. Students will attend AI-based lectures, in-depth introductions to ongoing AI research projects and field trips to local companies who specialize and execute AI-related work. This is a three-week residential program, from June 30 - July 22, 2018.

Caroline's Project: Young Women to Leaders offered merit based scholarships for LEAP@CMU. Scholarships were for young women planning to attend LEAP. You can find the web site at http://carolinesproject.org.
