Assignment  3: Image Mosaicing and Blending

- Nisarg Vyas (nisarg AT cmu DOT edu)

Section 1: Rectification of Images:

                           (a)                                                          (b)                                                       (c)

Figure 1: (a) original image with 2 planar surfaces of the building, in (b) & (c) the images are warped in such a way that one of the two planar surfaces in the original image becomes fronto-parallel

                             (a)                                                                                                  (b)

Section 2: Image Mosaicing and Blending

Image set 1:

                                                       Figure 3: Original Images

Figure 4: Mosaic with alpha blending

Figure 5: Mosaics blended with multiresolution laplacian pyramids of (a) level 2 (b) level 8

In this particular image set, there is not much to choose between pyramid of level 2 or more levels, both give similar results. In fact, alpha blending looks smoother than both of them !!

Image Set 2:

                                                           Figure 6: Original Images

                                           (a)                                                                                             (b)

Figure 8: Mosaicing with Laplacian blending of (a) level 2 and (b) level 8, in figure(a) one can see a faint vertical line at the which is more visible at center-bottom, figure (b) does not have that, and hence it looks better

Image set 3:

                                                                             Figure 9: Original Images

Figure 10: Mosaicing with Laplacian blending of (a) level 2 and (b) level 7,  figure(a) has visible distortion in center, which is not so visible in (b).

Section 3: Light / Dark Blending

                        (a)                                                    (b)                                                     (c)

Figure 11: Original images with (a) less and (b) more day light, (c) is the result image which shows the blending using 8 level Laplacian

                       (a)                                                             (b)                                                             (c)

Figure 12: Original images with (a) less and (b) more day light, (c) is the result image which shows the blending using 8 level Laplacian

Section 4:  Fun Stuff

1)      Double trouble!

Figure 13:  A double trouble image

Inspired from this idea, one of my friends also tried a double trouble image, instead of warping and producing such an image, he very artistically superimposed some of the portions of other image onto the original image, and he provided me this image.
