The Andrew Message System (AMS) provides a multi-media interface to mail, mailing lists, and bulletin boards.
AMS contains many advanced features, including authentication, return receipts, automatic sorting of mail, vote collection and tabulation, enclosures, audit trails of related messages, and subscription management. It also provides a variety of interfaces that support terminal interfaces and low-function personal computers in addition to support for high-function workstations.

The messages window is divided into three sections: a folder area, a caption area, and a body area. The folder region contains a listing of different mail and bulletin board folders. The caption area shows you the date, subject and sender of messages from the folder you've selected, and the body area displays the message you want to read.
Messages is fully compatible with the MIME standard for multimedia mail. MIME messages will be displayed fully formatted, using AUIS's formatted text inset (and whatever other media insets are needed.) You can also compose messages using the AUIS text editor; the message will be sent in MIME format.
