This image was the 'worst case.' It seemed like I could change something insignificant, and the image would not align. My alignment algorithm looks at the center of the image for alignment; and with this image it seems as though the middle of the image is very different in the 3 channels. This makes the sum of the differences not overly effective. With one minor tweak, I am able to run the program with this image.
