At the Town Council meeting on March 6, 2006, Lu dismissed the online information about Narconon as "all lies." Is this, then, a little 'quid pro cult' for her efforts? Source: http://www.geocities.com/GreenValleyReporter/ ================================================================ PRESS RELEASE: 2 May 2006 In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Narconon Program's establishment and with great pleasure Narconon at Canyon Oaks Ranch announces the establishment of an annual full scholarship for a qualified citizen of Green Valley, Ca. Named the "Paul W. Bole Memorial Scholarship" in memory of the well loved and active Green Valley resident who passed away February 5th this year. The concept had been discussed most recently at the April 10TH Green Valley Town Council Meeting by attending citizens, including Paul Boles' wife & sister, members of the Town Council and Community Center & the director for Narconon at Canyon Oaks Ranch. It was at that meeting that the GVTC presented a memorial plaque recognizing Paul's dedicated service to Green valley and is now on display in the GV Community Center building. When told the good news about the Full Scholarship to honor her late husband's memory, Lutier Bole said "I am honored and speechless; this means so much to me, and the community, thank you". Catherine Savage, Director of the residential drug & alcohol rehabilitation center currently going through the process of applying for a Conditional Use Permit from the County of Los Angeles, received word today that final approval was given by its Scholarship Committee. "When I applied to our Scholarship Committee I told them how over the last two years I have had the pleasure of meeting many Green Valley townspeople and civic leaders. It is our closest neighboring community, just 5 miles from the Canyon Oaks Ranch at the corner of Spunky Canyon & Bouquet Canyon Roads. I related that in our dialogues I learned of Green Valley's awareness of the crippling affects of drug & alcohol abuse & addiction and of the Community's determination in doing something about it! I told them of Paul's quiet but consistent help to his neighbors and community, of his service to our country in the Marine Corps, how he & Lu were among our earliest friends & supporters and how his life set such a great example of service and kindness, one that will both inspire and motivate our future students at Narconon at Canyon Oaks Ranch and all of us! These are the same values and points of ethics we emphasize in our program; service to one's family, community & country as a drug free individual!" Candidates for the once a year Scholarship, will need to meet Narconon's age, security& medical criteria and will need to demonstrate a sincere desire to do the Program on their own determinism. A selection committee will be worked out with the intention to include: a member from the Green Valley Town Council, a member from the Green Valley Community Center and Mrs. Luiter Bole; Scholarship. Preference would be given to residents of or family members of Green Valley residents while anyone could apply for the scholarship. In the event that the need for the scholarship not be found in the afore mentioned Green Valley category in a particular year, the selection committee could also give priority to qualified residents of the Lake Hughes, Elizabeth Lake & Leona Valley Communities as well as residents living on Bouquet Canyon Road. WORK-STUDY PROGRAM Mrs. Savage further commented "We also plan to establish a 'work study' program for qualified applicants; contingent on space availability, for residents of our surrounding communities and Bouquet Canyon Road residents. Since we are an independent, non-profit public benefit organization operating under State License, Narconon recognizes our responsibility for community service. We welcome initiative from other area communities to work with us to do the same. Already I have been approached by local people needing help with alcohol & drug abuse & addiction problems and we seek ways to assist prior to our opening of the residential facility. Especially in view of a neighboring Government's recent capitulation to drug & substance abuse; we as Californians need to get out of our "comfort zones" and get involved in drug & alcohol education & prevention and rehabilitation. It is a real sign of Leadership & care about their community that Green Valley inspired this Scholarship".
