Here's how to stay connected. Items grouped by media. I'm well aware of
the fact some of the sites mentioned break different client program. It is
very likely that a site listed here site is down, slow, or simply doesn't
work with your software. If that happens just email the appropriate
webmaster. If, however, it goes permanently off the net, or changes name or
its content (in a way that should exclude it from this list), email
me.

Note: some of the following sites require Hebrew fonts.
- Haaretz on-line offers an
English translation of the full Hebrew newspaper. Updates around 3am Israel
time daily. There is also a Hebrew
version. You can also try the
affiliated "Breaking news" site.
- CNN online offers a "customized news" service. You can
ask for news-items regarding "Israel", and even get weather conditions and
forecast for Major Israeli Cities. Updated around-the-clock.
- Maariv's site.
- Yediot's site will let you see the
headlines, but you'll have to register to access the content. Registration
is not free unless you're connecting from Israel.
- The Jerusalem Post (must register to
view content).
- Financial news: Globes online, The Marker
-
IsrealLine is a summary of news edited by the Israeli consulate in
New-York (and thus is a governmental channel). Updated around 5 times a
week, and is usually 1-2 days behind everybody else.
Multimedia
Note: the following sites require special plug-ins or applications. Each
site details what is required to view or listen to it.
- The Arutz 2 news update
around their airing times (i.e., 8am-5pm-8pm-midnight Israel time). The
site is very slow and unreliable. And when you get a connection, the video
clips are usually low-quality (assuming you want to see more than Yaakov
Eilon's face...).
- The official Reshet Bet feed
works intermittently. Their mother site
promises other IBA stations, including Channel 1 news, "soon".
- The Jerusalem Post Radio has
recorded newscasts.
- Live and recorded Mabat and
Yoman from Channel 1.
- Reshet - Live and recorded cable
shows.
- Radio Tel-Aviv
has news-on-the-hour from GALATZ, complete with traffic conditions on KVISH
HAHOF. Didn't you want to get away from it all? ;).
- Knesset
Israel - Live broadcasts from the Knesset.
- Major Events are likely to have video or audio footage on
CNN,
ABC,
NPR, etc.
Dead-tree newspapers
- Pinsker's,
2028 Murray avenue in squirrel hill, 412-421-3033, carries the weekend
issues of Haaretz, Maariv, Yediot, and the Jerusalem Post. Usually,
this is a special edition consisting of the MUSAF, the Friday paper, and a
summary of the items from the Sunday-Thursday issues. About $4. The store is
closed Saturdays, but is open Sundays, so 9am Sunday morning is the earliest
you can get the papers of previous week (see below if this is not good enough).
- It is possible to get Haaretz delivered to your door every weekend. If
you can afford the expensive subscription fee, they'll mail one out from
New York on Friday morning. If you're lucky (it probably depends on the
particular post office that handles your mail), you'll get it on
Saturday. Otherwise, on Monday. (718)793-7713.
