Grieboski Date: 29 Jun 2007 03:16:31 -0400 Organization: School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon Lines: 91 Message-ID: <4684b1cf$1@news2.lightlink.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: 172.16.34.12 X-Original-NNTP-Posting-Host: 128.2.222.123 X-Original-Trace: 29 Jun 2007 03:16:31 -0400, 128.2.222.123 It seems the Scientologists have found another stooge for hire: Mr. Joseph K. Grieboski, president of the Institute on Religion on Public Policy. Here's his web site: http://www.religionandpolicy.org/ Grieboski's institute, based in Washington, DC, doesn't appear to actually do much except issue press releases and ask for money. Here's an interesting release they issued recently: Institute Calls on German Defense Ministry to Fire its Spokesperson for Discriminatory Remarks http://www.religionandpolicy.org/show.php?p=1.1.1924 Washington, DC, June 26, 2007 In response to reports that the German Defense Ministry has decided not to allow the upcoming production "Valkyrie", a film starring Tom Cruise as the World War Two resistance hero Col. Claus Schenk von Stauffenberg, the Institute for Religion and Public Policy has sent a letter to the Dense Ministry which contained the following statement: "Harald Kammerbauer, spokesman for Germany's Defense Ministry, has issued a public statement that "Producers will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, 'because he is a member of the Church of Scientology.' This kind of utterance by a federal government spokesperson represents a flagrant case of intolerance. The right of an actor to express his art should not be infringed simply due to his religious association and beliefs. This statement by Mr. Kammerbauer undermines fundamental rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association and freedom of religion in contravention of the principles articulated in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and UNESCO $B!G (Bs Recommendation Concerning the Status of the Artist. It also undermines the right of the German people to appreciate the artists of their choice irrespective of race, color, religion or belief. Simply put, Mr. Kammerbauer's gratuitous remarks have no place in a democratic society and run completely counter to fundamental human rights. They do a great disservice to the Federal Republic of Germany. Under such circumstances, the only appropriate action is for the Defense Ministry to take immediate steps to sanction its spokesman by removing him from his office." The Scientologists appear to be highly pleased with Mr. Grieboski's work, because they're holding a fundraiser for him on July 11 at the home of Teresa Reile (formerly Teresa Reile Reger), President and DSA of the Buffalo Org. If you would like to attend this $75/person event (business attire, no black tie), you can RSVP at this web site: http://www.international-freedom.org/ Teresa Reile was integrally involved in the coverup of the circumstances of Elli Perkins' murder and the Church of Scientlogy's subsequent attempts to derail the Buffalo News investigation and reporting of that story: http://PerkinsTragedy.org/Reger The international-freedom.org web site has no content other than promotional material for this fundraising event. The site is registered to Colleen House, who is HCO Executive Secretary of the Buffalo Org: http://www.buffaloscientologyinfo.com/who.html The whole event looks pretty cheesy. There's a page for "VIP Guests and Supporters", but it's empty. The list of "Event Sponsors" includes the guy who did the calligraphy for the web site, and a local Polish bakery which will be providing baked goods for the event, so Teresa doesn't have to pay for food. Let's say Teresa manages to wrangle 50 people into paying for tickets to this shindig. That means Grieboski takes home $3750. So now we know what a Washington stooge rents for. If we offered him $5000, do you think he'd issue a press release denouncing Scientology's suppression of the Freezone? I guess we could throw in some baked goods too. But I'm thinking we should hold this fundraiser someplace more interesting than my house in Pittsburgh. How about holding it in the visiting room of the jail where Keith Henson currently resides? Black tie required. Pants optional. -- Dave Touretzky: "Clown shoes provided at the door." http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Secrets
