The Hearst Corporation is offering employees domestic partner benefits as of 1997, with all employees and union plans to be covered by the end of 1997. Not sure yet whether only same-sex partners or all are eligible. Hearst employs 10,000 people; owns 12 daily newspapers, 8 TV stations, 6 radio stations; is a partner in 3 cable networks (ESPN, A&E and Lifetime); is one of the largest magazine publishers in the world (Cosmopolitan, Good Housekeeping, Esquire, Redbook, etc.); and is in the book business (Avon Pocketbooks).
