On July 1, 1998 parent company to San Diego Gas & Electric (Enova) merged with parent company of Southern California Gas Company (Pacific Enterprises) to form a new parent company, Sempra Energy. Sempra Energy offers domestic partnership benefits (same and opposite sex) to it's employees. This becomes effective 1/1/99 for San Diego Gas & Electric. Sempra Energy is one of only two Fortune 500 companies in San Diego. Major Kudos for the merger...dragged conservative SDG&E into the 21st Century.
