How to get to my apartment.
- Heading East on 376:
Take the exit marked Forbes Ave. This should spew you out on Forbes,
which is a reasonably busy street that passes through Oakland -- you
should see a huge building, the Cathedral of Learning, towering ahead
of you. Keep going past the little urbany area and past the Pitt
campus. You will cross a bridge that goes over a large
ravine. Immediately after the bridge there's a stoplight. Go through
this stoplight to the next stoplight, which should be for Morewood
Ave, which comes from your left and ends at Forbes. The CMU campus is
on your right. Turn left here. Follow this through the nice
residential area a couple of blocks to the next stoplight. Turn right,
onto Ellsworth. Go through one stoplight, and I live on the block
immediately preceding the second stoplight (S. Aiken). You can park
anywhere on this block. I live on the left side of the block, house
number 5305
- Heading West on 376: Get off at the Squirrel Hill interchange,
just after the Squirrel Hill tunnel; make sure to be in the right lane
before you hit the tunnel. This dumps you out onto Murray
Street. Follow it up the Hill, all the way past the Manor movie
theater and the Barnes & Noble, past Forbes. Follow it until it
ends, in a three way intersection with Wightman. Turn left, and then
at the next stoplight turn right onto Negley. Follow Negley -- you
will go down a very steep hill, past Fifth, past Walnut, and turn left
on Ellsworth. The next stoplight you see will be at the South Aiken
intersection; go past it -- I live on the block immediately following,
on the right, house number 5305.
- At the house: I live in the basement apartment, behind the
house. Go up the driveway, and down the path. Open the wooden gate and
go into the backyard. There is a dog next door who might bark at you,
but he is securely caged so don't let him spook you. Step into the
back yard. If there's anybody in the backyard wave at them and say
you're a friend of mine; at this point little I or my guests could do
would surprise my landlords, and they are really sweet
people. Immediately to your left there should be a creepy looking
stairway going down. Go and knock on the door.
