When They Came From Space by Mark Clifton is a good example of the bad, sarcastic, alien contact novel. I can't even give him credit for a good idea done badly; the whole point of the novel is to say how illogical the government and people in general are. The same thing has been said too many times already.

I haven't read anything else by Clifton, but I bought this because Mark Clifton and Frank Riley wrote They'd Rather Be Right which won the Hugo in 1955, and this was the only novel I'd ever seen by either of them.
