Computer Science Department

The Computer Science Department seeks an outstanding faculty member to help fashion a recently inaugurated undergraduate degree program in computer science. We are a young, active department, which places a high value on teaching and research. Currently we seek to fill a position for Assistant or Associate Professor, commencing Fall semester 1997 (beginning August 20, 1997); position is tenure track. Applicants should have an earned doctorate in computer science (or be near completion). Salary and benefits are competitive.

BYU-Hawaii is a four-year undergraduate institution emphasizing the arts and sciences. It is sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. BYUH is located on the island of Oahu, minutes from the Polynesian Cultural Center. Student population (approx. 2300) is international in composition with many of the students hailing from the Pacific Isles and Asia.

Our computing facilities include SGI, Sun, HP, and Intel-based UNIX workstations interconnected to a campus-wide LAN with connection to the Internet through the Maui High Performance Computing Center. Current faculty interests include machine learning, neural nets, object-oriented software engineering, and visual programming languages.
