Two Endowed Chairs

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering invites candidates to apply for either of two Senior Endowed Chaired Professorships in Computer Science and Engineering.

• The CMRR Chair is endowed by the UCSD Center of Magnetic Recording Research, and is targeted to applicants in computer science areas that emphasize research in storage systems, including databases.
• The SAIC Chair is endowed by the Science Applications International Corporation, and is targeted to applicants in applied areas, with special emphasis on computer networks.

A Ph.D. in computer science or a related area is required. In addition, candidates for either chair should have an established track record for outstanding research and leadership in their field, as well as strong teaching skills. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications, in conformance with University of California policies.

Position in Virtual Reality

We are currently seeking a person to assume leadership of an advanced Virtual Reality project at UCSD. Critical attributes for such a candidate are leadership ability, personality and ability to work well with others, management skills, experience with real-time 3D graphics software and systems, and overall technical breadth and ability. The appointment would be in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. An advanced degree in computer science is preferred though not required, particularly if a candidate has demonstrated experience with similar projects. Experience with Silicon Graphics machines and 3D graphics API's such as OpenGL and Performer preferred.
