Asea Brown Boveri Transformer-Winding Project
________________________________________________________________
About the project
The goal of the ABB Transformer-Winding Project is to increase the
production speed and quality of transformer winding through sensing and
automation. Important results thus far include:
- Development and implementation of winding algorithms for non-axisymmetric
smooth and polygonal shapes guaranteeing closure of helically wound filament
layers and reducing material buildup and waste.
- Development of a touchscreen-based user interface for winding machine
operators.
- Development of a vision-based method of measuring the gap between
adjacent conductors on a rotating, non-axisymmetric mandrel.
- Development of a vision-based control scheme which minimizes the gapping between adjacent conductors and prevents conductor jumping by maintaining a constant winding pitch.
