The Campus Network: Structure

  • Campus network distributed via fiber plant and cabling system:
    • Fiber connects most buildings to CYH hub; recent map in /afs/cs/user/parker/www/nettalk/fiber_map.ps
    • Fiber terminates in building's cabling system BEF, building network distributed from BEF to IDFs to offices

  • Core of campus network is 2 Cisco 7000 routers (collapsed backbones), (30 + 12) 10Mbit/sec ethernet interfaces, 22/10 interfaces in use

  • Both route IPX (Novell), AppleTalk, bridge IP and all other protocols

  • Ethernet segments connect on/off-campus building networks, fileserver networks, routed departmental networks

  • Variety of supported media:
    • 10BASE-T, 10BASE-2, LattisNET 10Mbit/sec ethernet
    • 4 Mbit/sec tokenring (phase out: 12/31/96)
    • 230kbit/sec LocalTalk (MACs)

  • Detailed map in /afs/cs/user/parker/www/nettalk/internet_map.ps
