The SCS Network: Wiring

  • Floor, per-building ethernets delivered to office by multi-port hub stacks in floor wiring closets, hubs fed from ethernet port on backbone with UTP/coax/fiber

  • IBM Type-2 cabling system connects patch panels in floor wiring closet to data outlets found in each office on floor

  • Connections made between one hub port and closet patch panel and office outlet/media using impedance-matching devices/baluns

  • 10BASE-2 (thinwire), 10BASE-T, Tokenring, LocalTalk distributed this way

  • Still some 10BASE-5 (COAX) ethernet in use in WeH

  • Floor ethernets are SHARED ethernet, hubs are only repeaters, but using wiring, provide "star" topology
