I think you're getting the 2 projectile moves confused (or I'm confused by your descriptions). First, saying "Right" doesn't apply, since you can be on either side. I've found the Arm Lazer to be Down, Toward, A (for slow ones, requiring one "notch" of power), or B (for fast ones, requiring 2 notches of power). I assume the "Powered Slash" is the disc that flies up at an angle, which is Down, Away, A or B. Note that I've never found this useful (and sometimes after certain moves, I do the moves for an Arm Lazer, but a Powered Slash happens!).

P.S. Played it all this weekend w/ a friend--he could really whup me hard when he used Telesdon--a tough opponent. Note that, when in VS Mode, when player 2 picks a monster to play as, press P instead of A to bring up a screen before the fight--on this screen, you can handicap the players by choosing their power to be "Up" or "Down" instead of the default "Normal" (I think that's what they call it...)
