Psitsyn effect - identification of amphipathic helices:

With a periodicity of 3-4 (exact overlap after 7), hydrophobic and hydrophilic side-chains alternate in helices of globular proteins (visible in helical wheel plots) because the hydrophobic side of the helix faces the inside of the protein, while the hydrophilic side of the helix faces the outside.
