Course Description: |
The Self-Paced Lab for Information Retrieval (IR Lab) is intended
to complement introductory information retrieval courses by
providing a chance for hands-on, in-depth exploration of current
IR research topics. This is a project-oriented course that is run
similar to an independent study. Students design and propose
their own projects that must be approved by the
instructor. Usually each student works independently. Occasionally
students may form teams, in which case each must work on a
distinct and independent part of the problem or solution.
Students meet periodically with the instructor to review and
discuss their progress, any obstacles, and potential solutions.
This is a full-semester project-oriented course worth 6 units. |
