Reduced Deformable Models for Robotics and Computer Graphics

Recent work on dimensional model reduction can exploit the fact that many
complex continuous systems, such as deformable models and fluids, exhibit
low-rank statistical behaviors in particular applications. These reduced
dimension models can lead to very fast domain-specific simulation methods
that have very attractive properties for real-time simulation, computer
animation, and control. In this talk, I will provide background, and
present some of our recent work on fast reduced deformable models for
computer graphics and haptics.
