Subject: [D&D] Undead Island, round 1 aftermath

Hi all.

Well, I think that went well, for my first time running D&D. I forgot a
couple of things in the heat of battle, but if nobody else noticed the
errors, no harm done.

Awarding experience for that session was a bit tricky since some of the
stuff the party killed was stuff that couldn't possibly have hurt it.
(On the other hand, Gridley burned a lot of turning checks to make SURE
those things wouldn't be able to hurt the party. Shouldn't that count
for something?)

I decided to award experience for all the summoned creatures the party
killed. The book says that the summons are factored into the CR of the
caster, but you guys didn't _fight_ the casters, so you do get some
experience for the summons alone.

I wrote some numbers down, added a 500xp bonus for rescuing the elf, and
ended up with 2566 experience per person, which I think is about right.
You all now have 10566xp and are eligible for fifth level.

I have updated everyone's character sheets with the information collected
today. Everyone should level their character to fifth and send me a
revised character sheet.

In other news:

Some of you may recall telling me you had taken off your armor, to which I
responded, "No, you didn't." I should have been more explicit. Anything
you were wearing that was in contact with your skin (including, as a
special case, all items of armor, but not any weapons) is quite thoroughly
cursed, and you find it impossible to remove. You can kinda rearrange
your stuff to allow for bodily functions, but you find you cannot detach
it from your skin. This applies to Tidefell as well; wearing that chain
barding 24/7 will not be pleasant for him. Gridley does not think he's
powerful enough to uncurse your armor on his own.

The party is presently camped in a bunker, awaiting daybreak, which in the
past has always driven the undead away. About one day's travel to your
west is Seaspray, a satellite town of Blueport. Three days' travel to
your east is Sunnyside, near the Shining City. To your south is the stone
circle the bard spoke of, after which are miles and miles of undead-
inhabited wilderness until you get to the Argothian Forest. To your north
is New Hope City, which fell to the undead hordes five hundred years ago
and is inhabited by undead to this day.

The party's original plan was to head west at sunup, towards Seaspray and
Blueport. That was before Edward the Merchant got killed, though...
Gridley knows that the only clerics capable of resurrecting Edward are in
The Citadel, a week's journey to your east. (Selket points out that the
druids in Blueport are perfectly capable of reincarnating him, and quite
cheaply, too!)

What are your plans for next session? It will make preparations much
easier for me if you can reach a consensus before the next game starts.

Scheduling issues are, sadly, not yet resolved. I have other commitments
on Saturday that I would really prefer not to skip, as, I think, do some
of my players. Currently I am thinking of either finding a sub to play
Gridley, or skipping that weekend altogether. I will send out an email on
Friday with final details.
