Flying

The Pittsburgh International Airport serves as a hub for US Airways. Unfortunately, the airport is a distance outside of the city on the opposite side of Pittsburgh from Oakmont. If you rent a car, follow the signs for Pittsburgh which will take you to I-279 and then follow the driving directions for coming from the south.

Driving Directions

From the North, East, and West:

Oakmont is the Allegheny Valley exit (48) off the Pennsylvania Turnpike (Interstate 76).

After paying the toll, follow the signs towards Pittsburgh and veer right.  You will merge with Freeport Road. The hotel will be on your right.

To get to the church, continue driving on Freeport Road and turn left at the 5th light (about 1.5 miles from the turnpike exit).  There are signs for Oakmont and the Hulton bridge.   You will cross the Hulton bridge.

From the South (I-279):

The Fort Pitt tunnels (through which I-279 enters Pittsburgh) are currently being rehabilitated. Be sure to check for possible construction delays and detours.

After passing through the Fort Pitt Tunnels, take exit 7C onto PA-28 North.

Continue on PA-28 for approximately 12 miles. Take the Harmar exit (11). Turn right onto Indianola at the end of the exit ramp.

To get to the hotel, turn left at the next light onto Freeport Rd. The hotel will be on the left.

To get to the church, turn right at the next light onto Freeport Rd. Continue until you see the signs for Oakmont and the Hulton Bridge and turn left at the light onto a Hulton bridge.

From the Hulton Bridge

Cross the bridge and drive straight on Hulton Rd. You will pass a Dodge dealership, cross a street (Allegheny Ave), and railroad tracks in quick succession.  Immediately after the railroad tracks, turn right onto a brick road, Allegheny River Boulevard.  

Turn left onto Maryland Ave. (after Pennsylvania Ave. but before Delaware Ave.)  The church will be on your left before you reach a cross street.  There is a parking lot before you get to the church.

 

From Carnegie Mellon

Take Morewood to Fifth. Turn right onto Fifth and continue until the road ends (it will become Washington Blvd and you'll pass the UHAUL dealer and the Housing Police).

Turn right onto Allegheny River Blvd when Washington Blvd ends (to the left is the zoo and Highland Park Bridge and straight is the Pittsburgh Asphalt Plant). Continue on Allegheny River Blvd for about 5 miles. You will drive through Verona and then enter Oakmont (you will pass an Eckerd's and then come to a stop sign).

Continue on the now brick paved Allegheny River Blvd through Oakmont until you reach Maryland Ave.  Turn right onto Maryland Ave. The church will be on your left. If pass the Oakmont Giant Eagle (on the right) you've missed the turn for Maryland.  There is a parking lot entrance on Maryland just before you reach the church.

 

Hotel Info

We have reserved rooms for January 2-4 at the Comfort Inn Pittsburgh North (412-828-9400) in Harmarville (across the river from Oakmont). The group rate is $59 a night plus tax for a total of $67 per night. Reservations need to be made before December 19 to be guaranteed a room at this rate.
