LOS ANGELES - Public hearing dates have been set for two controversial Antelope Valley projects before the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

The first concerns the Agua Dulce Airpark, which recently won an approval from the Regional Planning Commission to build a 20-room airtel It would have 250,000 square feet of tie-down area for aircraft parking; 55 personal aircraft storage hangars; five community storage hangars; one public maintenance hangar; and a helicopter landing area.

The subject has roiled the Agua Dulce community for more than two years, with airpark opponents complaining about nonpermitted building by the airpark's former owner, among other issues. Other residents of the town strongly support the airpark.

Supervisors will have a public hearing on the airpark's permit June 27.

A separate hearing on July 25 will concern plans by Narconon Southern California to provide Scientology-based drug and alcohol rehabilitation in Leona Valley. The planning commission approved the plan, which has been the subject of debate in the Leona Valley and Green Valley communities.

In both matters, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, whose 5th District includes the Antelope Valley, called the items up from the planning commission for review, saving opponents the trouble of paying for an appeal.

Norm Hickling, an Antonovich aide, has heard from a number of residents opposed to Narconon's proposal. He said Antonovich's office is planning a community meeting regarding the plan.

"The bottom line is, we're going to continue to work with the community," Hickling said.

Paul Novak, an Antonovich aide who has closely followed the airpark issue, said Antonovich has received "hundreds of letters and e-mails" regarding the airpark.

"We've received a tremendous amount of input, and the supervisor is aware of the broad range of opinion in the community," Novak said. "Any party interested in the matter will have the opportunity to testify at the board."
