Below is a couple of E-Mails to me from a family that had a
"Narconon Experience" back in November that I responded to. The names
has been deleted.
Greg Beha
Dear Greg,
My name is xxxxxxxxxx. My husband xxxxxx, his ex-wife xxxxx and I
recently decided that our son needed to go into a rehab facility. He
was arrested for possession of meth and we found out he had an ongoing
problem for some time. xxxxxx is my step-son but I was given the task
of researching programs to send him to. We, too, were given
information about Narconon and we actually spoke to three different
Narconon facilities before deciding to send him to Narconon Arrowhead
in Oklahoma.
We borrowed the $27,000 from our 401(k) and yesterday his mom drove him
up from central Texas where we live to Canadian Oklahoma. Up to that
point we had been assured that Narconon was a non-profit organization
which used L. Ron Hubbard's textbook to teach out of and his sauna
program which he had developed to "sweat" out the drugs from his
system. We were not told of a withdrawal period before the sauna
program. She began to do some intense study of anti-Narconon articles
and sent it to my husband and me to study as well. It was on
Stop-Narconon.org website that I first read your story.
I have called my bank and put a stop-payment on the initial check of
$2500 which they insisted we send with our son for his "medical"
expenses and a post-dated check for the remaining $24,500 dated the
16th. We are now faced with a great dilemna and are hoping you might
share with us what you have found out since your son left the program.
I have been reading about the various books they use and it is
beginning to sound like brainwashing to me. We did not send xxxxxx up
to Arrowhead to be converted to Scientology though we have had an open
mind to using L. Ron Hubbard's techniques if they are, as stated, over
70% successful. We, like you, just want our son back whole and
healthy.
We have to make a very quick decision about getting our son out of
there and appreciate any input you might have.
We wish you all the very best with your son.
God bless,
Dear Greg,
Thank you for your reply to my email. Fortunately for us and
especially our son, we responded quickly to information we managed to
uncover about Narconon Arrowhead in Oklahoma and after one day at the
program, picked our son up and he is now in a 12-step program here in
Texas.
We had paid $2500 up front for xxxxx to be admitted to cover the
physical and detox part of the program and had written a post-dated
check for the remaining balance of the fee they charge in Oklahoma,
$27,000 (this is with a $3000 discount for paying all at once). I
stopped payment on the $2500 check and they returned the post-dated
check when xxxxx was picked up. I am sure we will receive charges for
his physical, room and board for 24 hours and all the vitamins, plus
they had given him during his stay. This is acceptable to us and
hopefully, will put Narconon behind us.
I am so sorry for all you had to go through with your son. How scary
that had to have been for you. But please know that because of your
willingness to speak out and have your story published along with
others, we were able to determine that this program was not what we
wanted for our son.
God bless,
