This message is meant to provide you with information to help you avoid a violation, answer the most common questions and explain the role of Parking Services. METER VIOLATION: --Meter fees apply between 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on weekdays. Meter fee payments are not required on weekends except in the University Center; the meters are enforced 24 hours, 7 days a week. Failure to pay the meter fees will result in a violation of $30, if paid within 5 working days it is reduced to half payment. --Please note that parking at a meter with either 1) an area permit or 2) a Universal pass does not eliminate then need to deposit quarters in the meter. A citation will be issued. --Finally, there is no grace time allocated on expired meters. The meters' rates in the East Campus Garage, Morewood Gardens, Whitfield Hall, 6555 Penn Avenue and Porter/Wean parking lots are a quarter (25 cents) for an 1/2 hour and they are 4 hours meters. The meters in the University Center and Hamburg Hall parking areas are considered short term/high turnover and are not as cost effective as an all day parking permit. The rates in those lots are a quarter (25 cents) for 15 minutes and they are 2 hours meters. NO PARKING PERMIT VIOLATION: --A valid permit is required to park in any of the Carnegie Mellon permit parking lots. If you are unsure of where to park with a valid permit (permit parking tag, visitor's parking permit, temporary disabled permit and a temporary permit) please ask the Parking Services personnel. --If permits are forgotten on a particular day, contact the Parking Office to receive a temporary permit (a $1 non-refundable fee will be charged) or the vehicle may receive a ticket. -- Parking without proper display of a valid parking permit in a lot other than the one designated by permit will result in a parking citation/violation. The parking violation is $40, if paid within 5 working days it is reduced to half payment. DISABLED PARKING VIOLATION: --Drivers must have a valid disabled placard or license plate along with a valid parking permit to park in any of the disabled parking spaces in the permit parking lots. If parked at a disabled parking meter, you must display either a temporary disabled permit (issued from Parking Services), disabled placard, or has a disabled license plate and makes the appropriate meter payments unless otherwise authorized by Parking Services. --Unauthorized parking in a handicapped space will result in a violation that is a $200 fine plus towing. Due to the severity of this violation this is a flat fee; there is no reduction of the fine. NO PARKING FIRE LANES: --There is no loading or unloading in any of the fire lanes on and off campus. The marked fire lanes areas are: Mudge, Roselawn Terrace, Hill Dorms, Hamerschlag and Mellon Institute. --Fire lane violations are subject to a $100 fine and vehicle towing; if paid within 5 working days it is reduced to half payment. Due to the safety issues that are related to fire lanes "No Parking" is permitted even if the vehicle flashers are on. LOADING ZONES: --Temporary loading and unloading in the ungated permit parking areas is permitted for a maximum of 15 minutes. This is to enable students to load and unload heavy equipment, projects or packages. Vehicles must display their flashing emergency lights. The driver must load or unload then proceed to move the vehicle immediately. The parking violation is $75, if paid within 5 working days it is reduced to half payment. --During authorized, temporary use of parking in delivery zones, vehicles are permitted only 15 minutes and must display their flashing emergency lights. Driveways violations are subjected to a $75 fine and vehicle towing; if paid within 5 working days it is reduced to half payment.
