Pretty Good Race
I participated in SCS Pretty Good Race six times from 1999 to 2004.
I was not a good runner and had no plan to run in a marathon race,
but somehow I ended up running in the race in 1999 --
I thought every incoming graduate student was supposed to run in the race,
but I was the only one who actually showed up -_-
After the pleasant accident, I came to think that it would be a good idea
to collect Pretty Good Race T-shirts and hope to finish the PhD program
before collecting my seventh T-shirt.
Fortunately I finished the program right before Pretty Good Race 2005,
and I now have (only!) six Pretty Good Race T-shirts.
Here is my record (from Pretty Good Race homepage):
1999 24. Sungwoo Park new Phd 23:53
2000 20 Park, Sungwood Prog Sys 24:20
2001 19. Sungwoo Park PS 22:38
2002 25. Sungwoo Park Prog. Systems 23:26
2003 19. Sungwoo Park Prog. Sys. 21:57
2004 15. Sungwoo Park Prog. Sys. 22:42
In 2000, my name was recorded as Park, Sungwood. I don't remember
if it was my idea to use such a strange name (better than my Korean name though),
but Sungwood was actually my name printed on the door bell at my apartment.
Perhaps the manager thought Sungwoo was a strange name.
I made a new record in 2003, a few months after I quit smoking completely!
