More about ME
- me as a gnome...
I was born in Jefferson City, Missouri and grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I graduated from MIT, class of 1991, in Computer Science. After working in Japan for Toshiba and the Electrotechnical Labs, I entered the Computational Linguistics program at CMU. After finishing the doctoral program in Language and Information Technologies at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, I worked for five years at a small Pittsburgh startup called Cepstral. Cepstral is a text-to-speech technology company, and I specialized in extension of the technology to new languages, particularly low-density and low-resource languages. I am currently a Project Scientist at Carnegie Mellon, working on a fantastic project called Global Connection.
