Chinese Elm #1 -- History
I bought this tree in December of 1996 from a nursery in Michigan. I
bought it along with a fig cutting and a honeysuckle. (These three are
the only trees I ever bought or plan to buy.) The only real asset it
had when I bought it was the curve in the trunk. This picture was
taken just after I bought it. I estimate that the tree was at least 5
years old when I got it.
The next two pictures show the tree from the left and the right.

I eventually potted the tree into a nicer pot, which was much bigger
than the original, giving it ample room to grow. You can't see it in
this picture, but there is one root that crosses back in front of the
trunk. You can see that root in the first picture above. I plan to
remove this root, but initially the tree had way too few roots for me
to want to risk removing any of them. Even minimal pruning has
cleaned up the look of the tree.
Since that picture was taken, the tree has really begun to look nice.
I hope to have a more recent picture available soon. The foliage has
now filled out and the lower branches are much thicker. I think it
will be "done" next year.
