Mercator

Flemish cartographer famous for producing Mercator projection maps of the world. Such maps display lines of latitude and longitude as straight perpendicular lines, with the distances between lines of latitude increasing as one moves away from the equator. Thus permitting one to see land masses free of the distortion normally caused by the Earth's curvature.
