Objectives:

At the conclusion of this lesson:
  1. The student shall understand the economic basis of product development.

  2. The student shall appreciate the nature of the management balancing act between schedule and resources.

  3. The student shall understand how management can affect cost and productivity.

Activity:

Software development management has much in common with the management of most technical projects. There are some differences, however, which makes the existence of this course necessary. Watch the Just-in-Time lecture The Nature of Software Development Management, and answer the following questions:
  1. What are the different combinations of "good, fast, or cheap" relationship and their consequences?

  2. What are the two sides of the management balancing act?

  3. How can good management increase profits on a particular software product?

  4. How does management affect cost and productivity?
