The "walking" pirate ship is structured like a simple wind-up toy with a gear, and coil to store and expend energy. The wave forms at the bottom of the ship act as feet, which displace the ship by rotating on a gear slighting off center. Principles of force are exemplified in the use of this toy as well as the effect of load and friction in relation to force. For example, the use of this toy on a slick surface such as tile will provide different results than its use on carpeting or grass.
In terms of manufacturing, this toy can be relatively inexpensive to make as it is only really two halves of plastic fitted togther with simple posts or notches inside the shell. The mechanism inside is very commonly used in inexpensive toys. Durability depends on the material chosen though ideally this toy would be made of a plastic material that would withstand some wear and tear, which also increases its safety. |
