Conference Social Events

• Optional Event: Baseball game: On Saturday evening, June 2, the Pittsburgh Pirates will be playing the Atlanta Braves in our gorgeous, brand-new ballpark downtown by the Allegheny River. (Special extra: it's "Pirates License Plate Frame" night!)

  (We had a lovely time, despite the rain. Those of us new to baseball got to see the field get uncovered and covered again, and we all received a lovely souvenir, plus a raincheck to come to a game the next time we're in Pittsburgh. On the way home, those new to the US got to meet a friendly but really insane guy on the bus.)

• The Opening Reception will be held on Monday evening, June 4th, from 7pm to 9pm, in the Atrium of Newell Simon Hall (labelled "LTI" on the map). There will be a concurrent Open House at the LTI in the same building.

• The Student Member Lunch will be held on Tuesday, June 5th, in Rangos Hall.

• The Conference Banquet will be held on Wednesday evening, June 6th, at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, just down the block from Carnegie Mellon, from 7pm to 11pm. It's also just a short walk from the Holiday Inn.
  The music will be salsa, provided by Pittsburgh's wonderful Orquesta Tropical. There may be dancing...
  

• Optional Event: Contra dance: On Friday evening, June 8, the NAACL webmaster will be calling a contra dance from 7:30 to 11pm at the Swisshelm Park Community Center; the band will be Amarillis, an excellent local band.
  ("Contra dance" comes from New England, and is essentially a barn dance, only without the barn.)
  Conference attendees are encouraged to join us; contra dance is easy to learn, but you should try to be there by 7:30 for a quick lesson if you haven't done it before. For more information, please contact Bob Frederking, or see his webpage.
