This book is a work of fiction about a possible future before the year 2000.
What happens to the world in the next few years if we decide to put computers into television sets? Furthermore, we take this one step further and provide broadcast programming just for the computers.
The answer seems to be that we will have the first true information appliance in the home.
This information appliance takes care of information like the dishwasher takes care of dishes. It greatly reduces the effort of nagging, information gathering, chores.
Like the personal computer is the desktop appliance, the television computer is the information appliance. One is not the other, but, like the personal computer, the television computer is a programmable machine that provides new money making opportunities for everyone who owns one.
This is unlike earlier information services such as Videotext, Videodata, Prodigy, and CompuServe. Because there is open competition for the best Television Computer programs, this one yields a friendly servant on the home TV.
