RI SEMINAR -- Ben Brown

ABSTRACT

We have begun development of a novel concept that is a radical departure from the current concepts for mobility. *Gyrover* is a single-wheel vehicle that relies on gyroscopic action for dynamic stability and steering. Gyrover has advantages over more conventional vehicles in terms of speed, stability, efficiency and reliability. This vehicle was originally being developed as a high-speed lunar rover, but may have other, interesting applications. We have built and successfully operated two, small, radio-controlled versions of the Gyrover.

I will explain how Gyrover works, discuss its advantages, show some videotape, and speculate on applications. This talk will be similar to the one I gave at the VASC Retreat last year.
