Abstract

I will present a discussion of how UTMB began with IMRT (forward planning), the potential benefits of the inverse solution, how one arrives at the inverse solution (specification of dosimetric objectives, determination of the ideal fluence distribution for each beam, segmentation of ideal fluence map into MLC field shapes), and current areas of research.

Speaker Biography

John E. Bayouth received a M.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering from Kansas State University in 1991, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science with emphasis in Medical Physics from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He lived in Pittsburgh for 5 years, holding an Assistant Professorship with the Department of Radiation Oncology at UPMC from 1994-1996, followed by a position as Chief of Medical Physics at Shadyside Hospital (now UPMC Shadyside). He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
