| Notes | The Crusader class has
one fewer graser/two fewer Mod 7 missile launchers per broadside than the
Prince Consort, to provide space for a Flag Bridge and Flag/Flag
Staff accommodations for 50 persons. The difference in mass comes from the
thicker armor with which the Crusader is outfitted, and from
a slightly different arrangement of internal fittings to leave extra volume
available for future command and control upgrades. Externally, this appears
as a twenty-meter difference in the the maximum-beam “midship” section of
the two sub-classes, with the Crusader having the longer
“midship” and steeper tapers from the maximum beam to the impeller rings
fore and aft. The original construction planning for the dual class when it was designed in 1850 P.D. called for the builders to construct “squadron batches” of seven Prince Consorts plus one Crusader, but failed to allow sufficient numbers of Crusaders for routine rotation and refit. Almost all construction of Crusaders was halted in 1895 P.D. at the orders of Sir Edward Janacek, then First Lord of Admiralty. As a result of thesetwo policies, the ratio of Prince Consorts (the most numerous CA class in the RMN) to Crusaders at the start of the Haven-Alliance War was about 9:1 and the ratio of active units closer to 12:1. Ship CO rank is Captain Junior Grade/Captain of the List Marine Complement CO rank is Major (RMMC). This dual class first appeared in The Short Victorious War. The class relation was detailed in In Enemy Hands. |
