2003/11/20 Auroras visit Pittsburgh again in three weeks! And it's in the SOUTHERN sky! This one appeared just after sunset, around 18:30 EST in the southwest. Two to three green patches were quite bright at times, shining through strong city light. Photos also show some red auroras above them. The patches went on and off in a matter of minutes, and gradually moved to the southeast. The primary show ended around 19:10, but faint green patches could still be seen occasionally after 20:00.
Observed from Shenley park Flagstaff hill, Pittsburgh, PA. Nikon coolpix 995 digital camera, f8.2mm, F2.6, 8 seconds, ISO 800, noise reduction on. Camera on the ground. Thank Pete Zapadka for the email alert.
