Possibly My Earliest Astrophotographs: Annular Solar Eclipse, 1987 September 23, Nantong, China [32.00N 120.85E]

This set of photos might be my very first attempt of astrophotography. This annular eclipse happened to pass right through my small town. It was quite an event in town -- at least in my high school. Two classes were cancelled that morning so students and faculties could enjoy the eclipse on campus. I wasn't really into astronomy then -- but anyway I captured these photos, with a simple point-and-shoot camera and some makeshift solar filter (to readers: you should always use a quality solar filter for your own safety!). We all know how small the sun would look like in a camera without zooming...and there was no way to control exposure. I guess that's why I missed the annular eclipse stage.

Many thanks to my family for digging them out after thirteen years.
