Here is a quick list of useful commands.
It is NOT exhaustive...

look around, l			tells you what's around
inventory, i                    tells you what you are holding
look at                         gives more detail about an object

go north, n (south,s,up,etc)    \
go kitchen                       } moves around
go through the door             /

take                            \
drop  obj (prep obj)             |_  do things with objects 
show                             |   (with indirect object)
give                            /

say `blah blah' (to Person)    \ talking
person: blah blah              /
