Original Log Homes

Original Log Homes have been custom handcrafting quality log homes and commercial buildings since 1967. Our homes have been delivered and erected throughout Canada, the United States and Europe.

During the winter, when the sap is low, we harvest only premium quality "old growth" spruce and pine logs from the dry belt of British Columbia. These logs have an average diameter of between 14" - 16" (we have larger and smaller logs available at no extra charge).

	Before construction, logs are selected for size uniformity, and hand peeled with a drawknife - the "original" method. Skilled craftsmen using axes, chainsaws and chisels begin to turn your ideas into reality. Using the Scandinavian full scribe (which requires no caulking) and either the Norwegian Saddle Notch or Round Notch at the corners, your home is built in our yard. Our crew will re-erect your home on your foundation within 4-6 weeks of placing your order. Re-erection of the log portion only takes 102 days.

Because we custom build all of our Original Log Homes, we have, for your convenience, a qualified designer/draftsperson on staff.

Your Log Package Includes:

Carefully selected, winter cut "old growth" spruce or pine from British Columbia's dry belt. Average size of logs are approximately 14" - 16" in diameter (larger or smaller logs availabel at no additional cost)
Full length logs are used in the construction for superior strength, which also eliminates unsightly and drafty butt joints
Every log is hand peeled with a draw knife. Then, using the Scandinavian full scribe method, each log is carefully notched and scribed into place
All corner notches (either round saddle or Norwegian saddle notch) and lateral notches are insulated with fiberglass to give you a warm and weathertight home
All window and door openings are cut out and keyed, ready for window and door installation
All log ends are sanded, chamfered and curled
Log stairs, purlins, loft joists, handrails, archways and trusses
Our skilled crew to re-erect on your foundation, which usually takes 1-2 days
