Clement Wong: Motivational Sign
My final project is
a three-dimensional sign that lights up and presents the motivational
statement, ÒMake Today Count!Ó. The sign is an assembly of 1/4-inch plywood
that was laser-cut to allow for the plywood to interlock and form a box. In
order to make the plywood interlock, each side of the box is comprised of
rectangular tabs on its perimeter. The rectangular tabs were made using the
Linear Sketch Pattern Feature on SolidWorks. Inside the box, there is a strip
of LED lights that is programmed with an Arduino. The program allows the LED
lights to show a specific color with a ÒdissolvingÓ effect. The ÒdissolvingÓ
effect was created by having the colorÕs brightness follow a sine function. The
sine function allows for the rate of change of brightness to be similar to a
ÒdissolvingÓ effect. For more details about the program, the program is
submitted to Autolab. In addition, there are pieces
of frosted acrylic placed behind the letters to allow for the LED lights to be
presented more distributed around the letters.
