Some of you must have heard of Tai Chi (taijiquan, shadow boxing). Over the past three centuries, the popularity of Tai Chi has increased and spread far beyond China's borders to Southeast Asia, Japan, Europe and America. Out of the admiration of it, many international students of Tsinghua University come to our team and ask us to teach them.  My formal coach, Prof. Liu Yunpeng were invited to Europe to teach Tai Chi. All these is an indication of its immense value to men's health, as has been testified by practice and research. Tai Chi is indeed a good exercise which, performed regularly, helps one keep fit, prevents and cures diseases, slows down the pace of growing old and prolongs life.

Many of my friends asked me what is the difference between Tai Chi and other daily dozen? I always said Tai Chi is an ART. Being part of the rich cultural heritage of China, it is an art in whose slow and gentle movements are embodied vigor and force. As a Chinese saying aptly puts it, "Inside the cotton is hidden a needle." Its technical, psychological and mechanical qualities all have a philosophical basis.

In fact Chinese Wushu contains over hundreds of different schools. There are Northern and Southern styles, internal and external forms and sets that imitate animals, etc., and Tai Chi is only one style of the internal forms. All of these different schools are with technical skills based on philosophy. Since ancient times, many people have devoted their lifetime and energy to probing the nature and essence of Wushu and mastering the maximum skills, and they left us a wealth of heritage. Wushu emphasizes on finding the harmony between one's body and the nature. Since myself just stepped into this great treasure house, now, it may be too difficult for me to talk clearly about all those profound truths, especially in English.  But I wish I can exchange with more friends of our understanding towards Wushu via this webpage.

How I love this old art and hope more people can share this precious treasure with us Chinese. I will continue to construct this page and introduce some good articles on Wushu studying when I have time. Just begin to learn it. A learner of Wushu can improve his physical skill as well as his mental world. You may find it is not difficult to learn, one thing you need is keeping on practising, then you will be sure to become an expert :-). As the old Chinese saying goes: Drops falling, if they fall constantly, will bore through a stone.

Ok, I must go back to my academic work now. In my album, there are some photos of my practising. You may be interested. Don't forget to drop me a message about your impressions and suggestions, including suggestions to help me improve my expression in English.

Talk to you later!
