State of the ROMs address -- 1.94x pre1 release for Montreal
I have put
AVOS-PC-FC-194x-pre1.zip on the ftp site in the AVOSFix directory.
Password 3byqmoqhpbfqm. It contains the hex files for AccuVote
Optical Scan Precinct Count French Canadian 1.94x prerelease 1.
(good grief). The firmware checksums are A:3985 B:FA37.
I am just getting my
arms around the state of the AVOS firmware. Here is what I know so
far. It is very probably incomplete and incorrect, but its a
start.
- 1.94w was released
March 14th 1999. It included a French Canadian build. It is Wyle
certified. It does not however have a withdrawn candidate
feature Montreal wants.
- 1.94x was released
Feb 14th 2000. It was subsequently re-released Feb 28th 2000 after a bug
was found having to do with modem detection. It is not Wyle
certified. There was no FC build at that time. To the best of my
knowledge today's 1.94x FC build contains the modem fix, but there is
only one way to be sure.
- 1.94y exists, but
never made it out of beta. 1.96.2 was submitted to Wyle in favor of
1.94y so I assume that release is baby-in-dumpster at this
point.
- 1.95 series
has most features that are in 1.94 but not all. Whether 1.95e
includes the withdrawn candidate feature isn't clear; again there is
only one way to find out. 1.95 conversely has some additional
features that are not in 1.94, but none of them are critical for
Montreal. As with 1.94y this series has been terminated in favor of
1.96.2. I don't think any 1.95 release has been through
Wyle.
- 1.96 series
apparently has all the features of 1.94 and 1.95, but again I can't swear to
that. It is in the process of going through Wyle, but has not yet
passed. There is a possible memory card corruption bug with this
release, but that has not yet been investigated.
Once everyone is
happy with the FC 1.94x prerelease, I will build an 'official'
release.
