Right now PCM is the GEMS default install,
because PCM is supported by BS 4.1 and 4.3, while mp3 is only supported by 4.3.
You have to install mp3 manually. This takes extra effort, but it is worth it. Mp3 files are about 1/10th
the size of PCM. It will save you time on download, and VIBS audio
performance (lag) is a little better with mp3.
Whitman has put together a new InstallShield
script that will make this process easier. It should appear in the next
release of GEMS 1.18. In it, the user gets to choose which audio to
install, rather than having to go through the manual process. Once BS 4.1
is fully depreciated, we’ll stop releasing the PCM audio files.

In addition to the
answers so far... MP3's are preferable, but require CE 3.0 or above
and BS 4.3 or above. ...Pat

So how
do you pick the correct one - I know they are different but when do you use MP3
and when do you use PCM? Does it have to do with the OS you are running?

PCM and MP3 are audio
formats. The difference is in the way we record the audio tracts used in
VIBS.
