Steam Shovel Amber
Ingredients:
- 6.6 lb John Bull plain light LME
- 0.5 lb crystal malt, 44L
- 3.0 oz Northern Brewer Hops, 7.0 alpha - boiling
- 1.0 oz Cascade Hops - finishing
- Wyeast 2112
- 0.75 cup corn sugar for priming
O.G.: 1.050
F.G.: 1.015
Procedure:
Steeped crystal malt in 1.0 qts. of 150F water for 0.5 hours.
Sparged into 4 qts. boiled water and added LME. Returned to boiling and
added 1 oz. of Northern Brewer. After 20 minutes, added 1.0 oz. Northern Brewer,
and after 40 minutes, added final 1.0 oz. Added Cascade hops for
final 2 minutes of boil. Mixed with 3.5 gallons of cold water in
fermenter, cooled to 75F, and pitched yeast. Bottled in 1 week.
Fermentation temperature varied from 78 to 64 F.
