This homework is due April 12.
This homework requires you to work through the tutorial handed out in
class about implementing ODBC-based client server applications and to
answer some questions. In particular, you need to implement a simple
linear programming model in Excel using data that resides in an Access
database and in an Oracle database. The objective is to give you a
sense for the middleware that enables the development of client server
decision support applications on local area networks. After working
through the tutorial I would like to you answer the following
question.
Traditionally, we think of a DSS as be used to either recommend or
evaluate options and to help a decision maker explore what-if
questions. Having worked through the ODBC tutorial, how do you think
ODBC can be used to support what-if questions? and goal seeking?
You will find it useful to overview the information
systems meta list which has an extensive collection of client server
resources.
