The current Amaranth schedule is
shown below. This page also contains a list of scheduled project events, and key milestones
and deliverables.
Every Wednesday, 10:30
pm
Weekly project meeting.
Location: Hamerschlag Hall, D-Level conference room.
Deliverables for each phase are
shown below. CMU makes no proprietary claims for the technologies
developed by CMU.
Year 1:
- Single-Axis QoS
Visualization (prototype): Software implemented
user control panel for monitoring and adjusting a QoS
parameter.
- Resource Models: Software
implemented synthetic workload generator for resource
availability and resource consumption for use in creating
a QoS workload.
- QoS Theoretical
Framework: Technical report defining the QoS
characteristics, parameters, and relationships upon which
the theoretical aspects of our work will be based. This
includes a description of the theoretical QoS framework
for selective interrelation of QoS parameters,
mechanisms, and policies based on an example application.
Year 2:
- QoS
Requestor/Service Models: Software implemented
models of QoS requests, resource consumption, and system
responsiveness for exercising QoS tradeoffs.
- QoS Tradeoff Models:
Software implemented models of application-specified QoS
tradeoffs based on quantified expressions of resource
needs and of the semantic importance of these requests.
These software mechanisms will encapsulate an aggregated
total quality resource function and a corresponding
tradeoff algorithm.
- Single-Axis QoS
Visualization (refined): Software implemented
user control panel for monitoring and adjusting a QoS
parameter.
- Initial Negotiation
Strategy: Technical report defining a
system-wide, inter-application QoS management strategy to
encompass negotiation of QoS to improve aggregate QoS
payoffs, to preserve system stability, and to provide
high QoS levels to critical applications. The strategy
will enable distributed and adaptive resource usage
adjustment along with dynamic addition of new critical
applications, and load shedding (selective throttling of
application resource usage).
Year 3:
- Decentralized QoS
Optimization: Software implemented algorithms
for decentralized QoS optimization with respect to the
aggregated client quality-service function values.
- Multi-Dimensional
QoS Visualization Tool: An integrated set of QoS
visualization tools to selectively monitor and tune
multiple QoS aspects locally.
