| The Experiment |
| Data was collected from 5 individuals (originally 6 individuals, but data from one of the individuals was unusable due to miss use of the tool). The training set included 390 letters and included the lower and upper case alphabet, short Shakespearean quotes, and pangrams (a phrase that uses all the letters of the alphabet). The test set included 106 letters in the form of pangrams and English sentences. The training and test sets were taken at differing times to account for the fact that your current state of mind and environment will also affect your handwriting. The training set began with all 26 letters in the alphabet in upper case and followed by all 26 letters in the alphabet in lower case separated by spaces and was preceded by several panagrams and Shakespearean quotes to simulate handwriting samples in everyday writing tasks. The training set text was the following: "A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog How razorback jumping frogs can level six piqued gymnasts Back in June we delivered oxygen equipment of the same size To be or not to be that is the question Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune" The test set included 2 pangrams to both simulate handwriting samples in everyday writing tasks and to test the model for short sample lengths, since in most practical applications for this research the sample size will not be very large. The test set text was the following: "Sixty zippers were quickly picked from the woven jute bag Brick quiz whangs jumpy veldt fox This is a test" |
