ABSTRACTAchieving class-based QoS for transactional workloads. Bianca Schroeder, Mor Harchol-Balter, Arun Iyengar, and Erich Nahum. Short version of paper appeared in the 22nd International Conference on Data Engineering (ICDE 2006). In e-commerce applications certain classes of users desire mean response time guarantees and are willing to pay for this preferential level of service. Unfortunately, todays commercial DBMS, which lie at the heart of most e-commerce applications, do not provide adequate support for class-based quality of service guarantees. When designing methods for providing such guarantees, it is furthermore desirable that they be effective across workloads and not rely on changes to DBMS internals for portability and ease of implementation. This paper presents an External Queue Management System (EQMS) that strives to achieve the above goals. FULL PAPER: pdf |
