I bought this cutting in December of 1996 from a nursery in Michigan. I
bought it along with an elm and a honeysuckle. (These three are the
only trees I ever bought or plan to buy.) Figs are great beginner
trees for growing inside. They tolerate a wide temperature range,
humidty levels and light levels; cuttings root very easily; new buds
form very easily; and they grow quite quickly.
The next two pictures show the tree after its first wiring
and after its second repotting. I wired the trunk to give it some
soft curves, and I wired the branches to bring them down and given
them some curves. I potted the tree in the clay pot immediately after
I bought it, but I made a mistake by leaving old soil on the roots
that was different from the soil I potted it into, so I had to repot
it soon after to fix the problem.
